J.T. Barrett was arrested for drinking and driving over the weekend. The Ohio State quarterback was reportedly cited for operating a vehicle while under the influence after he was stopped at a DUI checkpoint in Columbus late Friday night.

J.T. Barrett: Ohio State Quarterback Arrested For Drinking & Driving

The Ohio State Buckeyes are the defending national champs and had the weekend off before preparing to play at home against Minnesota next Saturday. J.T. Barrett revealed last week that he was going to chill and rest his body during the break. However, it looks like he changed his mind and went out for a bit and had a drink.

Ohio State’s school policy on drugs and alcohol would have required a two-game suspension if Barrett, 20, would have been charged with a felony. However, misdemeanor charges give Buckeye’s coach Urban Meyer the right to pass his own punishment on the quarterback, who only last week won the starting spot back from Cardale Jones.

The number one Buckeyes have been making headlines for over a year now when last season they started three different quarterbacks, Braxton Miller, J.T. Barrett, and Cardale Jones, after Miller and Barrett both got injured. It was Cardale who then lead the team to the National Championship where they beat the Oregon Ducks.

There was much speculation about which one of the quarterbacks would start for the Bucks’ home opener at the beginning of the season, and Cardale Jones seemed to win the spot. Despite winning every game and continue to keep their number one ranking, Jones just wasn’t performing up to the expectations and J.T. Barrett was again named the starter. Now, Jones will get another chance to show his stuff as he’ll start on Saturday in the wake of Barrett’s suspension.

Ohio State will finish the regular season by playing Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan State, and then their biggest rival, “That team up North,” Michigan. Buckeye Nation is now hoping that J.T. Barrett will be back in action and ready to roll after serving his suspension so that the team may become repeat National Champs.
