Jim Carrey Hit With Wrongful Death Lawsuit In Suicide Of Former Girlfriend Cathriona White
According to People Magazine, Mark Burton filed the wrongful death suit against Jim Carrey on Monday, statting that the 54-year-old actor used his “immense wealth and celebrity status” to obtain the drugs that killed Cathriona White, 30.
Burton claims that Carrey used the false name “Arthur King” to obtain the illegal drugs and gave them to White, even though he allegedly knew she was suffering from depression and suicidal tendencies. Mark also alleges that Jim Carrey tried to cover up his involvement in White’s death.
In a statement, Burton’s lawyer, Michael Avenatti revealed that Burton is asking the LA District Attorney’s Office to launch an investigation into Cathroiona White’s death. “We look forward to the facts and evidence relating to Mr. Carrey’s conduct and role in the death of Ms. White coming to light,” Avenatti said.
Jim Carrey Speaks Out About Shocking Accusations
Meanwhile, Jim Carrey has responded to the wrongful death lawsuit with a statement of his own. “What a terrible shame. It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man’s lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world. I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved. Cat’s troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone’s control. I really hope that some day soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace.”
White reportedly overdosed on Ambien, Propranolol, and Percocet, none of which had been prescribed to her. After her death, police revealed that they found prescription medicines not prescribed in her name. When police went through White’s phone they found texts from Jim Carrey asking if she “knew where his painkillers went from under his sink.” Burton claims Carrey sent these texts to cover his tracks.
