John Lennon’s 80th Birthday Honored By Beatles Bandmates

John Lennon was honored with a ton of love from his Beatles bandmates, alive and passed, on what would have been the music icon’s 80th birthday.

Paul McCartney took to social media to share a fond memory of Lennon. He posted an old photograph of the pair looking happily over what appears to be a sheet of music. Lennon wore his signature rounded glasses and crossed his legs. He placed his head in his hand as she smiled next to his writing buddy.

McCartney wore a white shirt and sported shaggy hair and thick sideburns as he held the paper on his lap and a pen in his hand. In the caption of the Twitter pic, the singer revealed that he loved the photo of he and his friend, adding that it reminded him of the bond that they once shared. He also wished Lennon a happy birthday and sent his love.

Lennon and McCartney met by chance at during a church celebration back in 1957. They hit it off and would later become one the most beloved songwriting duos. They would also form The Beatles, one of the most influential and popular bands of all time, producing songs such as “Come Together,” “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds,” “Hey Jude,” and many, many more. Lennon then went on to have a solo career, spawning hits such as “Imagine.”

McCartney has also enjoyed a lucrative career post Beatle-mania. His played with the group Wings, alongside his former wife, Linda McCartney, and has released his own solo albums.

The Beatles drummer, Ringo Starr, also took to his Twitter account to share his love for Lennon.

“Let’s celebrate John’s 80th birthday with come together Friday, 9 October I still miss you man peace and love to Yoko Sean and Julian,” he wrote.

According to Newsweek, the estate of the final Beatles member, late George Harrison, also paid tribute to Lennon on Twitter.

John Lennon was born on October 9, 1940 to Alfred Lennon and Julia Stanley. He died on December 8, 1980. He was entering his Manhattan apartment building when he was stopped by Mark David Chapman, who shot him four times at close range, killing him at the age of 40-years-old. He left behind his wife, singer and artist Yoko Ono, as well as his two children, Julian and Sean Lennon.
