Katy Perry writing songs about John Mayer after split

Katy Perry is planning to write break up songs about her ex-boyfriend John Mayer. The “Wide Awake” singer could be taking a cue from Taylor Swift, who penned the ballad “Dear John” about the musician.

However, Katy is no stranger to writing about her exes. When she and ex-husband Russell Brand divorced in 2011 she poured her heart out in her work, and she may just do that again this time around.

“I have a lot of respect for [John] still, and I know it goes both ways. There’s no bad blood, but I’m sure there will be inspired songs,” Katy Perry said of her John Mayer split.

It seems that many singers write songs about their failed relationships as it can serve as a kind of therapy to help them work through their break ups. Taylor Swift in particular has made a career out of writing about her famous exes.
