It’s all over. Kim Kardashian has officially filed for divorce from husband Kanye West. The reality star filed the paperwork to end the marriage on Friday, Feb. 19, Us Weekly confirms.
Kim is now seeking joint legal and physical custody of the couple’s four children, North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm. This marks the third divorce for Kardashian, who was previously married to Damon Thomas for four years. She later married NBA player Kris Humphries, but called it quits just 72 days after their lavish televised wedding.
Kim Kardashian has filed for divorce from Kanye West
Kim and Kanye tied the knot in Florence, Italy in May of 2014, just one year after welcoming their first child together, daughter North. One year later, Kardashian gave birth to son Saint.
In 2018, the couple used a surrogate to give birth to daughter Chicago, and in 2019 a second surrogate welcomed the couple’s second son, Psalm.
Kim and Kanye’s relationship has been rumored to be in decline for nearly a year. The couple have rarely been spotted out together, and the rapper’s public outbursts have allegedly taken a toll on his wife.
“Kim and Kanye haven’t been on the same page for a while now. Kanye isn’t as focused and doesn’t live in the real world. Their world views no longer line up,” a source told the outlet.
As for the next phase in Kim’s life, she’s said to be focused on the future and building her business.
“[Kim] will continue to focus on her business empire. Kim has been in individual counseling and is at peace with where her life is headed,” an insider dished last month.
Divorce details emerge
TMZ reports that Kim and Kanye have a prenup agreement, and that neither party plan on contesting it. A source also claims that West is fine with joint custody of the kids, and that he and Kardashian are committed to co-parenting successfully.
Kim has retained famed divorce attorney Laura Wasser as her lawyer. Currently, the divorce documents don’t list a date of separation. However, Kim and Kanye have reportedly been living separately for months.
Sources also tell the outlet that Kim and Kanye’s split isn’t ugly, and that they simply grew apart. The couple’s lifestyle and differences in their political views also contributed to their divorce.
At this time, neither Kim Kardashian nor Kanye West have released an official statement about their divorce.
