Lisa Marie Presley has opened up about a very personal subject in her life, her battle with opioid drugs. According to Yahoo News, Lisa is speaking out on her own personal experiences in the hope of that it will help others out there going through some of the same drug addictions issues.
Lisa Marie Presley normally likes to live a low-key life away from the public eye. However, over the past several months her life has become an open book. Currently going through her fourth divorce from soon-to-be-ex Michael Lockwood, a lot of painful and private matters in Presley’s life have been forced out into the open.
Presley claims she is “grateful to be alive” and that she also fell “prey” to the harsh cruel world of drug addiction. Lisa Marie, as fans already know is the only daughter of the late entertainer Elvis Presley and actress Priscilla Presley.
Known as the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley reportedly died from complications of a drug overdose on August 16, 1977, at the age of 42. So as you may well, drug use and addiction is a sensitive subject for the 51-year-old Lisa Marie.
Lisa Marie has opened up for the first time about her “own addiction to opioids and painkillers” in a foreword she wrote for the book The United States of Opioids: A Prescription for Liberating a Nation in Pain by Harry Nelson.

“You may read this and wonder how, after losing people close to me, I also fell prey to opioids,” wrote Presley, whose father had an opioid addiction and ex-husband Michael Jackson died of an overdose.
She explained, “I was recovering after the [2008] birth of my daughters, Vivienne and Finley, when a doctor prescribed me opioids for pain. It only took a short-term prescription of opioids in the hospital for me to feel the need to keep taking them” due to their dangerous
addictiveness.
Lisa Marie reveals her addiction has been one of the most difficult things in her life to get control of. As previously reported, during the divorce proceedings Lisa has also revealed that she is basically broke, having blown all her Elvis Presley inheritance money on drugs, rehabs, and bad judgment calls including trusting the wrong people to look after her best interest.
At this time in her life, Lisa Marie Presley reveals she is currently sober and credits her sobriety to four children, daughter Riley Keough, son Benjamin Keough and twin daughters Harper and Finely.
