Liza Minnelli has checked into a Malibu rehab facility for treatment with alcohol and drug abuse issues. Minnelli’s rep confirmed Liza’s rehab check revealing that she has been there several days is making “excellent progress.” Minnelli has suffered substance abuse issues throughout her life since the 70s.

Liza Minnelli, 69, is the daughter of the legendary actress Judy Garland, who is best known for her rolle in “The Wizard of Oz” as Dorothy Gale. Sadly it appears as if the substance abuse issues were inherited from Garland who also struggled throughout her life before dying in 1969 of an overdose. Throughout her lifetime Liza has had multiple public issues with substance abuse and has left a well documented trail, checking in and out of multiple rehabs. In 2010 Minnelli was approached by the “Celebrity Rehab” show and offered a half a million dollars to participate, but turned down the offer.

Liza as battled alcoholism and it is usually drug of choice, however she also uses prescription drugs, and addiction that stems from a Valium prescription after her mother died. Minnelli left her 1984 musical The Rink to enter rehab at the Betty Ford Clinic. Her abuse of recreational drugs in the 1970s was well known and documented by Andy Warhol, who in a 1978 diary entry recalled Minnelli arriving at Halston’s house and imploring the host to “Give me every drug you’ve got.”
Liza made her last professional public appearance in 2014, where she made a guest appearance on Cher’s Dressed to Kill Tour in Brooklyn, performing “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” alongside Cyndi Lauper and Rosie O’Donnell. We at HND wish Liza a full and speedy recovery during this tough battle.
