Matt Lauer has been fired from The Today Show. The journalist was axed by NBC for inappropriate sexual behavior with colleagues, and the news world is shook by the shocking termination of the fan favorite news anchor.
Matt Lauer joined The Today Show in 1994 and has served as a co-anchor on NBC’s morning news program since 1997. News of Lauer’s firing was revealed on Wednesday morning, and his friend Savannah Guthrie was the one who made the live announcement on the show. Guthrie fought back tears as she announced Lauer’s termination and claimed to be heartbroken for both Matt and the person who made the allegations of misconduct against him.
NBC News chairman, Andrew Lack, detailed the decision to fire Matt Lauer in a memo that was sent to the NBC staff. That memo was read on The Today Show to open the episode. The memo revealed that it was the first complaint about Lauer’s behavior in the workplace, but that the network feels that there may have been other undocumented incidents in the past.
“On Monday night, we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer. It represented, after serious review, a clear violation of our company’s standards. As a result, we’ve decided to terminate his employment. While it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over twenty years he’s been at NBC News, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident.”
After the news about Matt Lauer being fired broke, President Donald Trump took to Twitter to chime in on the situation, and used the social media platform to call for punishment of top news execs for allowing fake news to be spread.
Wow, Matt Lauer was just fired from NBC for “inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace.” But when will the top executives at NBC & Comcast be fired for putting out so much Fake News. Check out Andy Lack’s past!
