Matthew Perry died at the age of 54 on October 28. The actor’s friends, family members, and fans were stunned by the tragedy. While the official cause of his death has yet to be determined, the “Friends” star’s former girlfriend, Kayti Edwards, fears the worst.
Did Matthew Perry relapse before his death?
Over the years, Matthew Perry was candid about his substance abuse. However, after a medical emergency, the actor had gotten sober. He even wrote a book about his life, detailing his addiction. The memoir, titled “Friends, Lover, and The Big, Terrible Thing” became a bestseller. Now, Perry’s ex-girlfriend, Kayti Edwards, believes it’s possible that the late star may have relapse before his passing.
“I know Matthew and I know that he wouldn’t have just drowned,” Edwards told the UK Sun.“I think he might have taken pills in the week leading up to this.”
Edwards went on to reveal that “things aren’t adding up” for her surrounding Perry’s death. Even after his initial toxicology reports tested negative for fentanyl and meth. In addition, no drugs or prescription painkillers were found at his home, where he was found dead in his jacuzzi.
“They said there were no prescription painkillers at the scene, which doesn’t surprise me, because he didn’t leave drugs lying around,” Edwards said. “He was paranoid and would take them all, so there wasn’t any evidence, and then go out for more when he was ready to,” she added.
Perry’s last social media posts may have been a cry for help
Edwards went on to elaborate on Perry’s final social media posts. During his last weeks of life, the actor posted on Instagram, sharing snaps in which he called himself “Mattman.”
“That Mattman thing was not something he did when he was sober. Mattman would come out when he was not sober and he felt kind of invincible,” Edwards claimed. “I was around when he was getting high, and when I would say maybe he should cool it a little bit with the drugs, he would say, ‘No, I’m Mattman.’”
Edwards also alleged that Perry was often drawn to water during times when he was using drugs and alcohol. She claimed that one time she found him “naked and high” in his neighbor’s swimming pool. Meanwhile, a friend who saw Perry one day before his death claims that he looked happy and sober. He was also said to be working on a biopic about his life, and wanted Zac Efron to star in it.
The cast of Friends allegedly have their own theory on Perry’s death
As previously reported by Hollywood News Daily, the cast of “Friends” were stunned by Perry’s untimely death. They even allegedly speculated that he might have taken something that caused an interaction with the hot water of the jacuzzi.
“No one wants to believe it was medication – prescribed or not,” the insider said. “Of course, that is a thought in their minds. They are thinking he must have taken something that did not mix with the warm water,” a source told The Daily Mail.
The cast, which includes Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer all attended Matthew Perry’s funeral. The actor was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on November 8.
