Meg Ryan career comeback

Meg Ryan’s comeback is officially happening. The queen of rom-coms is back and starring in a brand new movie with David Duchovny. Ryan’s return to Hollywood comes after an eight-year hiatus from acting. Now she’s back in the movie “What Happens Later.”

Ryan is known for starring in some of the most beloved romantic comedies of all time. The actress has wowed fans in films such as “Sleepless in Seattle,” “When Harry Met Sally,” “You’ve Got Mail,” and “City of Angels.” She’s also appeared in movies like “Addicted to Love,” “Courage Under Fire,” “French Kiss,” Top Gun,” and “The Doors.”

Meg Ryan returns to rom-coms in What Happens Later

In “What Happens Later,” Meg Ryan plays the role of Willa. She’s described as a free spirit who is surprised to bump into her former love, Bill (Duchovny), at the airport. When their flight gets delayed, they find themselves stuck at the airport and forced to relive the details of their prior relationship.

Meanwhile, Ryan also directed the film, making it her sophomore project behind the camera. “Sometimes there’s a question of: Will they be together? Will they not be together?” Ryan told Entertainment Weekly of the movie. “For that reason, [What Happens Later] sort of evolves the rom-com genre just a little bit. It’s also about old people, and it’s still romantic and sexy.”

“It has a relationship to movies from the ’40s, like Bringing Up Baby, in terms of the banter and the rhythm of things and a lot of that era of filmmaking,” Meg Ryan continued.. “Nora Ephron used to say about rom-coms that they were really a secretly incredible delivery system to comment on the times, and we do that in this movie.”

Although Ryan may have taken a long break from acting, her legacy lived on. The actress’ son, Jack Quaid, whom she shares with former husband Dennis Quaid, has been making a name for himself. In addition to landing a role in “The Hunger Games” franchise, Jack also stars in the fan-favorite superhero series “The Boys” on Amazon Prime.

Jack Quaid is so proud of his famous mom

Previously, Jack admitted that he watched “When Harry Met Sally” for the first time. Despite his mom’s NSWF diner scene, he was moved to tears by Meg Ryan’s performance. “It was the afternoon and I was alone, and I finished it and immediately started crying because of how proud I was of her,” he told Jimmy Kimmel during an interview.

Fans can see Meg Ryan’s rom-com comeback when “What Happens Later” hits theaters on October 13.
