Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s relationship isn’t exactly ideal for two women married into the Royal Family. Meghan and Kate may share family but seemingly don’t share the same ideals and priorities. Although the pair are married to royal brothers Princes William and Harry, their lives couldn’t be more different. In fact, Meghan and Harry have strayed so far away from the royal lifestyle that the former “Suits” star allegedly refuses to curtsy to her sister-in-law, per OK! Magazine.
Royal author Andrew Morton recently revealed that Meghan and Harry have been staying out of the UK, and one of the reasons is that the Duchess of Sussex doesn’t want to curtsy to the newly appointed Princess of Wales. “What, and have Meghan Markle curtsying to Kate Middleton?” Morton said of the Sussex’s potential return to Britain. “I don’t think so. I don’t see that as a runner. They’ve got their own lives in California. They’ve got their own set, they’ve got their own influence, and they’ve got their own companies,” Morton added.
Is Meghan Markle avoiding Kate Middleton over royal protocol?
At the moment, Meghan Markle would only be required to curtsy to Kate Middleton if Prince William was by her side. Kate does outrank Meghan in the Royal Family hierarchy. However, formalities would stop her from bowing toward Kate without William in attendance. However, all of that will eventually change.
Whenever William takes the throne, and Kate becomes Queen Consort, Meghan would be expected to always curtsy to her in any situation. However, Meghan and Harry have proven that they don’t agree much with many royal protocols.
Prince Harry’s return to the UK in September
Morton’s comments come just after Prince Harry announced that he’ll return to London to appear at the WellChild Awards and then head to Germany for the Invictus Games 2023. In Germany, Meghan Markle is expected to join him (via Express).
Harry’s trip comes at the same time as the one-year anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death. However, it doesn’t appear that the royals will get together to pay homage to the late monarch. King Charles and Queen Camilla are said to be marking the anniversary privately at Balmoral at that time. Meanwhile, Prince William and Kate Middleton will be in Wales.
It may be some time before Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are again in the presence of Prince William and Kate Middleton again. However, whenever their reunion does happen, fans will certainly have all eyes on the foursome.
