Donald Trump’s wife, Melania Trump spoke at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this week, and her speech sounded very familiar. In fact, some are saying that Melania downright stole her words from the current First Lady, Michelle Obama.
Did Melania Trump Plagiarize Speech From Michelle Obama?
According to CNN, “at least one passage” in Melania Trump’s speech from the RNC “plagiarized” Michelle’s Obama’s Democratic National Convention speech from 2008.
In side-by-side comparisons of the the two speeches, it seems obvious that Melania’s speech was taken from Michelle’s. However, the Donald Trump campaign chairman denies the plagiarism accusations.
“To think that she would do something like that knowing how scrutinized her speech was going to be last night is just really absurd,” chairman Paul Manafort stated.
Both Donald Trump and New Jersey Governor, Chris Christie, defended Melania Trump’s speech, saying that she absolutely did not plagiarize Michelle Obama’s words.
Donald Trump Campaign Denies Accusations
The Trump campaign has released a statement about the similarities in the speech. “In writing her beautiful speech, Melania’s team of writers took notes on her life’s inspirations, and in some instances included fragments that reflected her own thinking. Melania’s immigrant experience and love for America shone through in her speech, which made it such a success,” says Jason Miller, the senior communications adviser.
Melania Trump also revealed that she only read the speech one time, and that she wrote it with little help. “I read once over it, that’s all, because I wrote it … with (as) little help as possible.”
