“Melissa and Joey” has been cancelled after 4 seasons airing on ABC Family. The comedy series starring Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence will conclude its story line by airing its fourth season this summer.
“Melissa and Joey” Cancelled By ABC Family
“We are proud of the milestones ‘Melissa & Joey’ has achieved, being the network’s first sitcom to reach 100 episodes and the network’s first comedy to win a People’s Choice Award,” Programming and Development executive vice president, Karey Burke, told The Wrap in a statement.
By the end of Season 3 Joey had gone from Melissa’s “manny” (male nanny) to her personal fitness trainer and from her employee to her husband. The couple are now struggling to find time for a honeymoon while juggling their careers and raising Joe’s recently discovered teenage daughter.
The Show Ending After Season 4
“Now that the kids are grown and Mel and Joe have married and are looking towards starting a family, it seemed like a natural time to bring the series to a close. We are grateful to Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence, and the whole cast and crew who worked so hard on this successful show,” Burke revealed.
“Melissa and Joey” being cancelled comes after the comedy was ABC’s highest rated sitcom and has been nominated for three consecutive People’s Choice Awards, winning for the first time in the Favorite Cable TV Comedy category back in January. So, it looks like it’s more of a moving on decision than a ratings failure that has the show’s execs deciding to end the series.
“Melissa and Joey” also stars Taylor Spreitler and Nick Robinson. The 100th episode will air as the mid-season finale on March 18 on ABC Family.
