Modern Family fans got the sad news that the long-running comedy will be officially calling it quits after Season 11. According to Huffington Post ABC announced Tuesday that Modern Family has been renewed for their final season.
All good things must come to an end including Modern Family. Karey Burke, President of ABC Entertainment made the announcement at the February 5 Television Critics Association press tour. The final Season 11 episodes are promised to close out any and all loose ends and provide many milestones for the TV families.
“In its final season, there will be more milestone events that anyone who has been a fan of the series won’t want to miss,” Burke promised, according to The Wrap.
The subject of a possible spin-off was also addressed during the press release with Burke saying that it would be “terrific” but that she hasn’t “heard anything yet.” It is going to be a sad season saying goodbye to the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker clan. Cast members have been hinting for several weeks that an additional and final season was being negotiated.
Julie Bowen, (Clare Dunphy) also hinted at the time that the end was near.
“It would give me an opportunity to cry at the beginning of every episode, every table read,” she told ET. “This is the last time we do an episode 12. It would let us all properly grieve the end of the series as opposed to it being right now we’re like, ‘No this can’t be it,’ because we’re all enjoying it. No one’s crying. No one’s sad. So, we’re looking forward to being sad.”
Last year TV comedy fans faced a similar situation after it was announced that “The Middle” would also be ending their 9 Season run. It looks as if ABC comedy fans will soon be making room in their hearts for a whole new group of family sitcom comedies.
