Morgan Wallen sparked controversy yet again this week when he opted to abruptly walk off the stage at “SNL” before the show went off the air. The country music superstar was tapped as the musical guest alongside host Mikey Madison for the March 29 episode. He sang two of his new songs, and did so in a very matter-of-fact way. Many believed that while he sounded good, there was no flair to his performances. He continued that trend at the end of the night when he quickly left the stage during the iconic on-stage good night ritual.
Fans immediately noticed that Morgan Wallen bolted as quickly as he could from the “Saturday Night Live” stage. He briefly hugged Mikey Madison, but made no attempt to connect or celebrate with any of the cast members before quickly exiting the stage and walking off toward the “SNL” audience. He reportedly also skipped the traditional after-party.
Later that night, Wallen took to social media to reveal that he was already at the airport and ready to leave New York. He shared a photo of a jet on the runway with the caption, “Get me to God’s country.”
Wallen is no stranger to sparking controversy. During his career he’s made headlines for multiple scandals, such as being filmed using the N-word, and being arrested for throwing a chair off of the rooftop of a Nashville bar. When it comes to “SNL,” he also doesn’t have the greatest track record.
Morgan Wallen Takes To Social Media After Awkward ‘SNL’ Walk Off
During the COVID era, Morgan Wallen was set to be the musical guest on the show. However, he was axed after he was spotted partying with fans without a mask on. “Saturday Night Live,” opted to remove him from the show, adding Jack White as their quick replacement. Eventually, Wallen did return to perform.
“He still took that money and screen time though,” one person wrote via Reddit.
“Posting that caption over a private jet is hilarious to me. It’s giving spoiled baby throwing a tantrum,” another comment read.
“Such drama. Just don’t go on the show bud,” said a third person.
“Why do they keep inviting him back after what happened during the height of the pandemic? Give someone else a payday,” a fourth comment read.
While it seemed that Morgan Wallen was making a statement about the “SNL” controversy on Instagram, he has yet to officially speak out about it. It’s likely that he won’t. However, it may be awhile before he’s asked to return to “Saturday Night Live.”
