NBA Free Agency: Biggest Overpays This Far!

NBA Free Agency is in full swing! Every year it seems like teams around the league continue to pay players more and more money! Has the caliber of the average NBA player changed? Or are teams just getting desperate? This offseason has seen some pretty crazy contracts already, but let us look at the biggest overpays this far! Looking at these overpays, we will be judging by the team that handed out the contract as well as the situation they are in. We will also be looking at long-term contracts and not just one-year contracts.

Dillion Brooks

Starting strong with arguably the most hated player from last season, Dillon Brooks. The Houston Rockets are still in rebuild mode. They were one of the worst teams in the NBA last season. Fred VanVleet’s three-year $128.5 million contract with Houston was big money. Now fans around the world are wondering what they were thinking by giving Dillion Brooks a four-year $80 million contract.

Brooks, while not considered a huge offensive threat, does have the physical style of play that any team needs in a player. The problem is that he tends to say some things he can not back up with his play on the court. The length of this deal is scarier than the dollar amount, according to BleacherReport.com.

Reggie Jackson

Another big overpay goes to the Denver Nuggets. After losing Bruce Brown to the Pacers, Denver used their best spending money on bringing back Reggie Jackson. Jackson’s contract is valued at $10.3 million over two years. This move makes no sense when you look at how much Jackson really played last season. He was not a part of their post-season roster either. Replacing Brown was impossible for Denver, but they could have tried a little harder.

Kyle Kuzma

The Final overpay slot goes to the Washington Wizards. Kyle Kuzma will be making $102 million over the next four years thanks to the Wizards. After trading Bradley Beal to Phoenix, Washington gives out an outlandish contract to a player who should be viewed as a trade asset. Although Kuzma is coming off a career season with the Wizards, Washington needs to be thinking about a hard rebuild.

It has been a very interesting offseason so far. With these overpays, as well as some trades that have gone down the NBA will look a lot different next season. It will be very interesting to see what else will happen as free agency has just started, and there are plenty of high-value players on the trading blocks. NBA Free Agency can be wild!
