LeBron James dunking

NBA News: Kyrie Irving Wants LeBron In Dallas

A Crazy new twist has developed in the Kyrie Irving/LeBron James reunion plot. As reported by BleacherReport.com, NBA sources have said that Kyrie Irving has asked the Dallas Mavericks to explore the idea of trading for LeBron James this offseason. Irving wants to create a new big three with LeBron, Luka, and himself.

A Reunion?

At this point in time, it is no secret that LeBron and Kyrie are open to playing with each other once again. After spending a few years together in Cleveland and winning a championship in 2016 the chemistry is there. Dallas was prepared to make an offer for James last season when the Lakers were on a downward spiral. James was not eligible to be traded though due to his recent contract extension. A big three of James, Doncic, and Irving would be very difficult on many levels.

The NBA’s new Collective Bargaining Agreement makes it very hard to have three max players on one roster. For that to happen two players would have to take big pay cuts. The easiest way for LeBron to end up in Dallas would be for him to orchestrate a contract buyout, but that is very unlikely.

LeBron James has one year $46.9 million left on his contract, He also holds a $50 million player option for the 2024-25 season. The four-time NBA champion is expected to return for his 21st season. Getting back into it, James and Doncic have a good relationship, Luka has stated that Lebron was his favorite player growing up.

Will Irving Resign?

Kyrie Irving is currently an unrestricted free agent and is the Mavericks’ number 1 off-season priority. Irving signing with the Lakers seems unlikely due to Dallas being able to pay the 31-year-old more than any other team in the NBA. Irving has stated his regret about how he left James and the Cavaliers back in 2017.

A LeBron and Kyrie reunion is not out of the question. The two have seemingly made up after the ugly situation Irving created in Cleveland. It will be a very interesting offseason for sure as now all attention is on the NBA Finals. The Denver Nuggets and the Miami Heat are currently tied at a game apiece. The series is heading to South Beach now. Things are heating up around the entire NBA! It will be very interesting to see what happens as free agency is set to begin on June 30th.
