Nina Dobrev thrilled all of her Vampire Diaries fans when she posted a throwback photo from the set of the hit CW series to Instagram on Friday. The actress also tagged her hunky co-stars, which included her former boyfriend Ian Somerhalder, and his on-screen brother, Paul Wesley. She captioned the post, “Blast from the past.”

In the photo, Nina, Ian, and Paul sat outdoors on a patch of grass as they hung out on set. Paul, who played the smoldering and stoic Stefan Salvatore on the show, sat in the front. He wore a black t-shirt and with a long-sleeved half-zipper pullover on top.
Ian, whose on-screen alter ego Damon Salvatore was a fan favorite character on the series, sat behind him wearing a black button-up shirt.
Nina, who portrayed the main character of Elena Gilbert on the show, sat next to him as she donned a pale pink long-sleeved t-shirt and dark jeans. She wore her long, dark hair parted in the middle and styled in sleek, straight strands that spilled over her shoulders.
The trio sat underneath of a tree for shade as sunlight streamed over their faces and cast shadows on the ground around them. In the background of the photo, some large trucks and tall, red ladders were visible. Some green foliage could also be seen behind them.

“I freaked out when I saw she tagged Ian,” one follower wrote.
“Tagged Ian Somerhalder and posted a photo with him, I can’t believe it,” another stated.
The Vampire Diaries ran for eight seasons, beginning in 2009 and ending it’s run in 2017. However, Nina left the show at the end of Season 6. Her character had taken “the cure” and become human again just before having her life linked to that of her human/witch best friend, Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham). She fell into a deep sleep and wasn’t set to wake up until Bonnie’s eventual death.
Nina and Ian’s complicated history
At the time, it was speculated that Nina wanted to leave the show following her breakup with Ian, whom she dated for over three years. Ian went on to date Twilight actress Nikki Reed. The couple tied the knot in April of 2015. They currently have one child together, a daughter named Bodhi Soleil Reed Somerhalder, who was born on July 35, 2017.
