O.J. Simpson is (almost) a free man! The former NFL star turned murder suspect turned convicted armed robber went before a parole board in Lovelock, Nevada on Thursday and got his wish. The board agreed to let him out of prison this fall.

O.J. Simpson has been behind bars in Nevada for nearly nine years after being arrested for armed robbery, which took place back in 2007. Simpson was sentenced to 9 to 33 years for the crime, but will be released this fall after serving the minimum of his sentence.

O.J. promised that he wold be a model citizen, much like the type of prisoner he was. The former NFL great also revealed that he doesn’t believe he’ll have any problem dealing with the public once he’s set free.

“… Wherever I’ve been there’s been a crowd. That’s not new to me. … I’m pretty easily approachable. I’ve dealt with it all my life, and I don’t foresee any problem dealing with the public now, at all.”

As many know, O.J. Simpson’s name used to be synonymous with football. However, after he was arrested and charged with the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman, the name became known for something else, the trial of the century. While O.J. was found not guilty for the double homicide, many Americans felt that he was, in fact, guilty, and when he went to jail in 2007 for robbery a lot of people believed he was right where he was supposed to be.

However, the parole board did not take into account the fact that he was on trial for murder back in 1995. They looked at the fact, and took into account the fact that O.J. had been a perfect prisoner, with no infractions whatsoever, and the fact that he recently turned 70-years-old. All in all, they parole board believed that Simpson was a low risk to re-offend, and voted unanimously to release him in October.
