One Tree Hill fans know that Peyton Sawyer (Hilarie Burton) falls madly in love with Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray) and the rest is history. However, Peyton and Lucas were never supposed to end up together. The characters may have made an interesting couple, but Peyton and Jake should have been endgame when it came to ending the series. Sadly, that never happened.
It’s clear that Nathan Scott (James Lafferty) and Haley James Scott (Bethany Joy Lenz) were meant to be, but Lucas and Peyton’s relationship wasn’t always so secure. There were times when Lucas only had eyes for Peyton’s best friend Brooke Davis (Sophia Bush) and the love triangle caused a lot of heartache throughout the years. However, one person that Peyton could always count on was Jake, the single teenage father with a heart of gold.
One Tree Hill couple Peyton and Jake were a great match
Peyton and Jake seemed like the perfect fit. Peyton felt at ease with Jake, she loved his daughter Jenny with all of her heart, and she could picture her life as part of his little family. Sadly, that’s not how things worked out. Jake was forced into a custody battle with Jenny’s mother, Nikki, which eventually led him away from Tree Hill. Peyton was heartbroken to see him go, but the two declared their feelings for each other anyway.
Once it was clear that Peyton and Jake wouldn’t be able to make things work, she was forced to move on, and she did so by falling for Lucas and nearly ruining her longtime friendship with Brooke. In the end, things worked out as Brooke eventually fell head over heels for Peyton’s former boyfriend Julian, and Peyton and Lucas tied the knot and welcomed a daughter together before leaving town.
Lucas and Peyton weren’t supposed to end up together
Lucas and Peyton are an iconic Tree Hill couple, but they weren’t meant to be that at all. During the Drama Queens Podcast, Burton admitted that she was told in Season 2 of the show that she Peyton and Jake were going to end up together. After hearing that, true One Tree Hill fans can’t help but wonder what might have been if the original plan to have Lucas and Brooke end up together would have come to fruition, leaving Peyton and Jake open to explore their romance and ultimately become endgame. As much as viewers love Lucas and Peyton’s pairing, the show could have been so different if the initial plan for the couples would have worked out.
Fans are now hoping for a One Tree Hill revival, where they’ll be able to find out what happened to Peyton and Lucas, as well as Jake and the rest of the Ravens crew.
