Pete Davidson Shares Tragic Details About His Father’s Death In September 11 Attacks

Pete Davidson interview

Pete Davidson is known for being one of his time’s funniest and blunt comedians. The former “Saturday Night Live” star has made a career by poking fun at other celebrities — like Kanye West — and himself. He’s even found a way to work through some of his trauma with his jokes. Sadly, jokes can never take the pain of losing his father in the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Pete Davidson shares heartbreaking details about his father’s death on 9/11

Davidson is one of many people whose lives were forever changed during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The actor was a child at the time, and his father, a New York City firefighter, was called in to help with the chaos surrounding the day. Sadly, Davidson’s father lost his life in the attacks, and the comedian found out about his death in the worst way.

Pete Davidson was 7 years old when his mother picked him up from school on September 11, 2001. At the time, he had no idea that his life had forever changed. “I got picked up by my mom. She didn’t tell me what was going on for like three days. She kept telling me dad’s at work, I had no idea,” he said during an appearance on the “Real Ones” podcast with Jon Bernthal.

“My mom’s like, ‘You’re just grounded. You’re not allowed to watch TV.’ I was like, ‘What? I didn’t do anything’. And then one night I turn on the TV and saw my dad on TV. They’re like, ‘These are all the firemen who are dead,'” Davidson explained.

Meanwhile, Pete Davidson went on to reveal that it was a strange time for his entire family. They had continued to hold out hope that his father may be alive among news that people were being pulled from the rubble of the Twin Towers. However, they eventually came to terms with the fact that Davidson’s father was gone.

The actor now credits his mother for holding the family together during that heartbreaking time. “There was just some sort of hope, and it was just up and down, and nobody knew the right way to deal with it,” he continued. “That’s why, as I get older, I’m like, ‘Man, my mom was awesome’.”

Pete Davidson has often joked about his father’s tragic fate in his comedy routines. However, the jokes don’t take away the PTSD that the actor says he suffers from due to his father’s death in the September 11 terrorist attacks.
