Prince Harry shared some very emotional personal stories in his new AppleTV docuseries “The Me You Can’t See.” The Duke of Sussex opened up about everything from his mother Princess Diana’s death to his wife Meghan Markle’s mental health struggles and suicidal thoughts (via Daily Mail). While talking to the camera, Harry admitted that Meghan’s unhappiness was a huge factor in his decision to exit his duties as a senior member of the royal family.

“I thought my family would help, but every single ask, request, warning, whatever it is, just got met with total silence, total neglect. We spent four years trying to make it work. We did everything that we possibly could to stay there and carry on doing the role and doing the job. But Meghan was struggling,” Harry admitted. “That feeling of being trapped within the family, there was no option to leave. Eventually, when I made that decision for my family, I was still told, ‘You can’t do this’, and it’s like, ‘Well how bad does it have to get until I am allowed to do this?’. She [Meghan] was going to end her life. It shouldn’t have to get to that,” the Duke of Sussex added. Harry also got candid about why Meghan was heartbroken before the couple’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey aired back in March.

Prince Harry claims Meghan was distraught by bullying claims

According to People, just days before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey was set to air there were allegations of bullying against Meghan. The Times in the UK reported that one of the staff members that worked closely with Meghan at Kensington Palace claimed that the Duchess of Sussex had treated her poorly. However, Markle has denied the report. “The Duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma,” a spokesperson for the Meghan said at the time.

Harry admitted that after the reports surfaced online that he found Meghan crying in bed. “I was woken up in the middle of the night to her crying in her pillow because she doesn’t want to wake me up, because I’m already carrying too much. That’s heartbreaking. I held her, we talked, she cried, and she cried, and she cried,” he said. As for all the rest of it, leaving the royal family and speaking out about their own struggles, Harry says that he and Meghan made a choice to prioritize their well-being and plan to continue that plan going forward. “We chose to put our mental health first. That’s what we’re doing. And that’s what we will continue to do,” Harry firmly stated.
