One of the most beloved open-world games of all time, Red Dead Redemption, is finally getting re-released. The wave of nostalgia has hit hard. Red Dead is finally free of these outdated consoles, with fans everywhere excited to play. Now, some are exposing the re-release as a easy moneymaker.
Red Dead Re-Release Angers Some Fans
Red Dead Redemption was released in May of 2010 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. At the same time, its estimated cost of development was about $100 million. The game also sold a huge 23+ million copies, per We Got This Covered.
Now, Rockstar Games is re-releasing the game for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. However, many video game enthusiasts have displayed their annoyance at spending $50 to play a game with no substantial upgrades on an almost 10-year-old console.
First things first, the re-release trailer has no mentions of updated graphics or better framerates. This corresponds with the press release that also had no information on any kind of “new coat of paint’ on their cash grab. The trailer was also released in 4K. However, there it’s unlikely that players of the game on the PS4 could run this game at anything higher than 720p.
Finally, fans want to know where the Xbox and PC versions of this re-release are. Xbox can already play Red Dead Redemption with backward compatibility. The Xbox version is practically the same as the new re-release version.
It’s been said that Rockstar may likely realize that if they were to add the game to PC they would have to add additional menus and settings. As well as allowing players to select higher framerates and resolutions. This would require more work and money on Rockstar’s end. This is presumably why fans did not get a PC version of the re-release.
Of course, there will still be fans who buy the re-release by Rockstar. The possible success of the game could also open the door for the company to do more of this with other beloved games.
Red Dead Redemption fans have different ideas about the re-release. However, the debate is likely not going to be settled anytime soon.
