Reese Witherspoon and Kevin Costner made headlines this week with dating speculation. Fans went wild after claims that the pair were dating behind closed doors surfaced online. Now, the “Legally Blonde” star’s rep is speaking out about the rumors.
Is Reese Witherspoon dating Kevin Costner?
Reese Witherspoon and Kevin Costner are both newly single. Witherspoon split from her husband, Jim Toth, earlier this year. Meanwhile, Costner also divorced his longtime love, Christine Baumgartner, in 2023. However, the actress’s rep says that the dating rumors aren’t true.
“This story is completely fabricated and not true,” Witherspoon’s rep told Page Six amid the dating rumors. The clarification comes after many fans spoke out in support of the possible new couple.
“I hope it works for them,” one fan tweeted of the rumored couple. “I’m actually okay with this,” another wrote. “Kevin Costner is dating Reese Witherspoon? What??? You go boy!!! You go girl!!!” a third fan stated.
Reese and Kevin reportedly want to work together
Hollywood News Daily previously reported that Witherspoon and Costner were romantically linked after sources told New Idea that the duo were secretly getting flirty. The outlet claimed that the actors were looking to work together, and had moved past the friendship stage during their talks.
“Kevin’s had his eye on Reese ever since she won her Oscar, but he didn’t count on finding her absolutely charming as hell. They’ve been calling and texting on the pretense of finding the perfect script, but it’s becoming almost a daily occurrence,” the source revealed.
The source went on to add that although Costner and Witherspoon may be secretly dating, the “Yellowstone” star was looking to further his career foremost. The insider dished that Costner was looking for another Oscar, and was being careful not to let the tabloids get ahold of any more info on his personal life.
Witherspoon has interesting Yellowstone connections
Some fans may have been looking forward to seeing Witherspoon and Costner become one of Hollywood’s most interesting new couple. However, the actress does have close ties to at least one “Yellowstone” star. Ironically, Witherspoon previously starred in “Sweet Home Alabama” with Josh Lucas, who plays the younger version of Costner’s character, John Dutton, on the hit show.
Fans loved the duo together in the film. There have even been talks of a possible “Sweet Home Alabama” sequel. In addition, Lucas has stolen the show in his appearances on “Yellowstone.” So much so that some fans have called for a prequel starring the actor as John in his younger years. Maybe Witherspoon could also join the franchise. She’d likely be great on the show or one of it’s spin-offs.
While it doesn’t look like Reese Witherspoon and Kevin Costner will be going public with a romance anytime soon, they did appear to get fans’ seal of approval. Only time will tell if a work or personal relationship between the duo will form.
