Roy Halladay has died at the age of 40. The former major league baseball pitcher’s airplane was found in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Florida. Halladay is best known for his work with the Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies.

According to a Nov. 7 report by Radar Online, Roy Halladay’s plane was reported crashed by a private resident. The resident called the Pasco County Sheriff’s Department around noon on Tuesday. When emergency vehicles arrived to the scene, the MLB pitcher’s airplane was found upside down in shallow water.

Roy Halladay’s death and the plane crash are currently under investigation. Sheriff Chris Nocco said that Halladay was the only victim of the tragic crash. No mayday call was put in to the Tampa Bay airport before the crash was reported.

After the news of Roy Halladay’s death broke, his former baseball team, The Philadelphia Phillies released a heartbreaking statement via Twitter, saying, “We are numb over the very tragic news about Roy Halladay’s untimely death. There are no words to describe the sadness that the entire Phillies family is feeling over the loss of one of the most respected human being to ever play the game.”

Fans are now mourning the death of Roy Halladay, and remembering the two-time Cy Young winner’s life and career after news of this tragic and untimely death broke on Tuesday afternoon.
