Nickelodeon’s Sam and Cat has officially been cancelled. The show, which stared iCarly’s Jennette McCurdy and Victorious’ Ariana Grande is over after just one season.
Grande confirmed the news of the cancellation in an emotional Twitter message on Sunday. “I want to thank Nickelodeon for being a family to me. Thank you to the cast and crew who I spent almost every day with for a good four or five years. I can’t imagine that there is a more pleasant or professional crew in Hollywood,” Ariana Grande wrote.
Sam and Cat was scheduled to have a 40-episode long first season, but after controversy hit the Nickelodeon series, it seems that episode 36, scheduled to air on July 17 will serve as the show’s series finale.
The show went on hiatus in March after racy photos were leaked of Jennette McCurdy, and reports that McCurdy and Grande were feuding over salary disputes.
Meanwhile, Ariana Grande’s music career is taking off, and she’ll likely now focus most of her energy on that aspect of her career. As for Jennette McCurdy, we’re not sure what the future holds for her, but we do think comedy should be a big part of it.
