Scream 6 is the latest in the franchise, and fans rolled out to the theaters to find out who lives, who dies, and who is behind the Ghostface mask. This time around the franchise left Woodsboro, much like in Scream 2 and 3. The New York City setting was the perfect backdrop for the film as the busy streets, close-knit apartments, and subways add to the spooky setting. Warning: Spoilers below.
When it comes to the Scream films, the newest installment is far from the worst. Although Neve Campbell didn’t appear as Sidney Prescott, and David Arquette’s Dewey was killed in the previous movie, Courteney Cox deliver as Gale Weathers, per usual. Hayden Panettiere also killed it (pun intended) as Kirby, reprising her Scream 4 role.
Scream 6 is a new take on an old franchise
Scream 6 also stuck out in another big way as it paid homage to the entire franchise. All of the previous killers were mentioned. In fact, there was an entire shrine filled with evidence and memorabilia from all of the past Ghostfaces.
There was more than one brutal murder. However, one thing that differed from the rest of the sequels is that all of the survivors from the previous movie got away with their lives this time around as well. The “Core Four” as they called themselves lived to fight another Ghostface in a possible Scream 7.
Ghostface twist changes the game
In addition, the killer reveal was a bit surprising. In each of the films, there have been two killers, with the exception of Scream 3 when Roman was the lone Ghostface. However, this time around, there were three people murdering, scheming, and wearing the Ghostface mask.
While the franchise has become a bit predictable, there were some fresh elements in Scream 6 that made it worth watching. As for lovers of horror films, the movie is a must-see to add to your slasher movie watchlist.
