Shameless star Cameron Monaghan who plays Ian Gallagher on the popular Showtime comedy-drama “Shameless” took to Twitter to announce to fans that he is leaving the show.
Fans of Cameron were shocked to find that not only is Monaghan leaving the series, but he is also doing it early on into Season 9. In fact, according to Cam next Sunday’s episode of “Shameless” will be his last.

This news is not sitting too well with “Shameless” fans who were also hit earlier this year with the news that Emmy Rossum, who plays lead female Fiona Gallagher was also leaving the series in order to pursue new acting/directing and producing endeavors. Rossum made her exit announcement via her Facebook page back on August 30 stating:
Sadly, ‘Shameless’ fans have felt that since Season 7 that the show was starting to lose a lot of the dysfunctional-comic appeal as compared to previous seasons according to numerous social media posts and fan pages. Now with the news out that two of the fan favorite Gallagher family members are making their exits viewers feel that time is running out for the series.
“Shameless” made it’s television debut on Showtime back in January of 2011 quickly gaining millions of viewers. The show focuses on a poor, dysfunctional Chicago family struggling with an alcoholic father, absentee mother and their six children who go to any and all extremes to survive, keep a roof over their head and stay together in the craziest situations.
Seasons 1-9 of “Shameless” can be viewed on Showtime, while non cable subscribers can catch Seasons 1-8 streaming on Netflix.
