Sons of Anarchy fans are still as obsessed with the FX series today as they were when it was airing on television. The show included complicated characters, relationships, and dramatic storylines. Of course, it also ended with a shocking moment.
The show premiered in 2008 and lasted for seven seasons before ending its run in 2014. Even though it’s been off the air for years, viewers still love the show and the characters, and would love to see more stories from the universe.
Sons of Anarchy fans still hopeful for a prequel and/sequel series
There has been talk of a possible prequel series that would follow Jax Teller’s (Charlie Hunnam) father, John Teller as he and Clay Morrow (Ron Pearlman) founded the SAMCRO.
In the past, the series creator, Kurt Sutter, has revealed that he would like to call the show First Nine. However, it seems that the hopes for the prequel have been dashed.
After Sutter was fired from the S.O.A. spin-off series, Mayans MC, he stated that First Nine was not likely to happen. Disney currently owns Fox, which means they also own the rights to the series, and likely won’t let Sutter take it to another studio.
“As of now, the possibility of doing that doesn’t look that hopeful. It’s their property. They’re not going to let me take it somewhere else. Right now, that relationship is in flux. With time and a shift in attitude, will we be able to do it? I don’t know. Hopefully. Maybe,” Sutter said last spring, per Cheat Sheet.
In addition, there have been talks to continue the original story with a sequel series. That show could possibly follow the lives of Jax’s children, Able and Thomas.
At the end of the series, the boys lost their father. He left them both in the care of Able’s mother, Wendy. Sadly, Thomas’ mother, Tara, had died.
Could the story continue with Jax’s sons?
The sequel could prove to be interesting as Able was already displaying some of the behaviors that he’d seen the adults in his life exhibit during his young life.
In the series finale, Able was also seen wearing his father’s rings on his fingers as he headed off with his new life with his mother.
Able and/or Thomas could possibly join SAMCRO, or even resurrect the group for a new round of chaos and crime either in their former hometown, or even a new town.
“They’ve talked about making a prequel series called “The First 9”. Would be amazing if that ever got done,” one fan recently tweeted.
“I actually heard they were going to do a prequel on the mom and dad.. I guess it never happened but it’s gotta be brutal,” another wrote.
Currently, fans can watch all seven seasons of Sons of Anarchy, which are streaming on Hulu.
