Splitgate Continues To Rise On Steam Despite Long Queue Times

Splitgate is a fast-paced, first-person shooter game playable on PC and console and has recently become all the rage for gamers around the globe.

The Game is still in Beta testing and has a lot of problems. But despite all of that people are still playing this game all day and night.  This game has blown up so much its developers had to delay its 1.0 release in order to increase the server sizes.

Even with the server capacity increased Splitgate players are still faced with hour-long server queues but are still lining up to play.

According to PC Games, “While Splitgate has been available on Steam in Early Access since 2019, the current surge began on July 28, as SteamDB shows. The game reached a peak of 28,342 concurrent players on PC as of July 30, the same day the developers reported that the overall, cross-platform player number crossed 100,000 concurrents. On August 1, Splitgate reached a new record of 53,138 players on Steam alone.”

As a result of the popularity, players and even the developers are also in 90-minute queues. The Splitgate subreddit is full of running jokes about the game’s current state but they seem to be all in good fun as players are happy to get into the game at all.

Fans are flocking to Splitgate

Splitgate is described as if the games Portal and Halo had a child. The first-person shooter aspects of the game as well as the weapons are a lot like the Halo franchise and the portals players can use to zip around the maps are almost identical to the ones used in the Portal franchise. Mixing of those two functions has never been done before and gamers everywhere are all about it.

With so many players, the worry was that there would be a lot of toxicity between opposing teams, but it has actually been a very pleasant experience for the most part as there has been little to no trash talk or taunting. But that could all change as the game moves forward of course.

Splitagte has given a refreshing feel to the first-person shooter genre as it is very unique but still has all the aspects that make a good first-person shooter. The guns are all pretty balanced and fire fights come down to whoever has better aim and more skill. There is also an in-game store for weapon and character skins but the best part is that they are strictly cosmetics and do not give anyone an in-game edge or advantage.

It is very exciting to see the rise of Splitagte and it will be interesting to see how the game goes forward and I’m sure it will only get more of a following as it moves towards full release.
