In the Star Wars universe, it is not an unlikely thing to see a good character turn evil or an evil one turn good. The whole Skywalker saga is about the character of Anakin Skywalker turning from good to evil to back to good.

These turns are often total swaps, completely different ends of the scale. Very rarely do we see any characters operate in the more gray areas of good and evil. That is where Cassian Andor operates at his best.

“I mean, you don’t work with Tony Gilroy if you don’t want to stay in the gray areas”, says star Diego Luna. “It’s what his writing is about when he’s at his best. Because this story is about people, there’s no Jedi around, therefore it’s just people surviving. On both sides, there are people, like you and me, and people make choices. Sometimes you succeed with those choices, sometimes you fail, and sometimes you realize you’re on the wrong side. Life should give you the chance to react to that and change, and transform.” according to IGN.com.

What to expect from Andor

Andor will be a gritty story about people on both sides trying to survive a drama-filled and heavily divided galaxy as the Galactic Empire and its agents of evil gain a tighter grip on the galaxy every passing day.

Andor will explore a very dark time in the Star Wars timeline as there are very few Jedi Knights left after the dreaded order 66 was executed as well as poverty and slave labor at an all-time high. This show needs to send a message in the first few episodes that things are not okay and they will get worse before they get better.

If Andor’s writers can do that it will be a show that stands out in the vast amount of Star Wars lore which is a very tricky thing to accomplish. Andor has a chance to do something no other Star Wars show or movie has done, especially not since Disney bought the franchise.

Where is Star Wars heading?

Bringing a more mature audience to Star Wars is exactly what the franchise needs to continue to grow. Star Wars: Andor has a very unique opportunity to do something special and meaningful for this franchise and we can all only hope that the writers see that and take advantage of it. But for right now we will have to wait until the end of the month to see what direction Andor will take as the first three episodes of the series will be released on September 21st on Disney Plus.
