Disney has finally given Star Wars fans their first look at live-action Grand Admiral Thrawn! In the recent Ahsoka series trailer, we finally get to see the face of the Chiss admiral. Thrawn is seemingly the main antagonist in the upcoming Ahsoka Tano spin-off series. Grand Admiral Thrawn was also one of the “big bads” in the hit animated show Star Wars Rebels.
Thrawn To Live-Action!
It was announced in April at this year’s Star Wars Celebration that Lars Mikkelsen would reprise his role as the Star Wars villain. According to Variety.com, Thrawn was created by author Timothy Zahn as part of a 1990s book series. These books took place after the events of Episode Six, Return Of The Jedi. Fans quickly fell in love with Thrawn as he was a smart and cunning villain. Thrawn is portrayed as a genius and a ruthless military mind.
In 2012 when Disney purchased Star Wars, Thrawn was taken out of the canon only to be brought back in 2016’s Star Wars Rebels thanks to Dave Filoni. Now, seven years later, Thrawn will return in Live-action form. Dave Filoni’s Ahsoka series sees many characters making their live-action debuts. Characters from Star Wars Rebels such as Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, and of course Thrawn.
Dave Filoni, working directly under George Lucas for many years, knows the ins and outs of these delicate characters. Filoni will direct a select few episodes of Ahsoka as well as being the showrunner and the executive producer. Having Mikkelsen return as Thrawn is also a big advantage as he understands the character’s mannerisms and thought processes. Fans can not wait to see one of the most loved villains in the franchise make his live-action debut. It is right around the corner too!
Who Else Could We See?
The Ahsoka Series is set to release August 23rd, of this year! It will have a two-episode premier and be streaming on Disney Plus. It will be very interesting to see what kind of adversity our favorite characters will face in this upcoming show. What other characters will we see? Could we see Anakin Skywalker? Maybe even Luke Skywalker?
There are so many possibilities for this show and it has many fans worldwide extremely excited. There have been many rumors of what we could possibly see in this series and each one is more exciting than the last. August can’t come soon enough as hype for the Ahsoka series is at an all-time high!
