Star Wars

In a recent interview, John Boyega, most recently known for his role as Finn in the Star Wars movies, opened up about a possible return. His recent words about the franchise come years after he spoke out about how Disney treats black characters in their projects. Boyega accused Disney of using diverse casting to bring in viewers and then pushing those characters to the side after they have made their quick buck.

Boyega’s Thoughts

“That was a few years ago, so they were the subject of that particular project,” Boyega recently told TechRadar, in an interview that was conducted before the actors strike. “But I’m open to all characters and scripts that are enjoyable, have a great cast attached, and a terrific director. So yeah, I’m open to all opportunities.” According to HollywoodReporter.com

In a 2020 interview, Boyega again talks about how his once prominent character got pushed aside after The Force Awakens. “You get yourself involved in projects and you’re not necessarily going to like everything,” he said at the time. “[But] what I would say to Disney is do not bring out a Black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are, and then have them pushed to the side. It’s not good. I’ll say it straight up.”

John also talks about how the other white lead actors’ characters were not affected in the same way as his. “You knew what to do with these other people, but when it came to Kelly Marie Tran, when it came to John Boyega, you know f–k all,” he said. “They gave all the nuance to Adam Driver, all the nuance to Daisy Ridley. Let’s be honest. Daisy knows this. Adam knows this. Everybody knows. I’m not exposing anything.”

Fans Want More Finn!

Boyega talks about how his time with Star Wars has made him the man that he is today. He reflects on the good times as well as the bad. John Boyega has stated that he is now comfortable with his character Finn. As for a return to the galaxy far far away, it seems up in the air as of right now.

Boyega’s character was liked by most fans. Many feel as if he was pushed out of a role he was meant for in becoming a Jedi. A former Stormtrooper turned Jedi Knight is the kind of stuff Star Wars fans live for. Hopefully, we can see Finn in another Star Wars project sometime in the future.
