The Mandalorian has become a huge hit for Disney Plus, bringing live-action Star Wars to television. Now, the series will pioneer more uncharted territory as the first Star Wars show to get its own movie. The film will be titled The Mandalorian & Grogu. This movie will seemingly take the place of Mando Season 4. The film will be directed by fan-favorite Jon Favreau. Franchise heavy hitters, Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni, will serve as producers on the project.

Favreau Weighs In On The Mando Movie

While fans are thrilled about the big Star Wars franchise news, they’re not the only ones. Favreau is also excited to get to work on the film.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” said Favreau. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy also weighed in on the film. “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen,” she stated, per  IGN

Lucasfilm also stated that The Mandalorian and Grogu will lead the future of Star Wars. In addition to this latest project, fans will also be getting films directed by James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and Filoni in the future. Mangold will be going back in time to uncover the origins of The Force, while Sharmeen will be taking on the future as Rey begins to rebuild the Jedi Order.

The Mandalorian and  Grogu looks to be the first Star Wars movie to be released in theaters since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. Since it was said the franchise’s movies would be going on a hiatus, four other possible movies have been announced.

Johnson was said to have his own trilogy, the Rogue Squadron film paired with a trilogy by D.B. Weiss and David Benioff. However, all of those projects have been either postponed or canceled.

Will This Be The Mandalorian Season 4?

The film could serve as Season 4 of the series. However, it may also be a standalone. It’s unclear whether Pedro Pascal will show his face in the film. However, fans are hoping for a Din Djarin sighting sans his helmet.

There are so many questions that hopefully this film can answer. Unfortunately, fans everywhere will have to wait for more information on this film.
