The upcoming Disney Plus series, Star Wars: The Acolyte is said to have more Jedi than any other film or show. The Jedi are arguably the most noticeable characters in all of fiction. Even non-Star Wars fans know what a Jedi is. Leslye Headland, The Acolyte’s showrunner, is priding herself on her show’s vast amount of characters. What kind of crazy species will we see in Jedi robes?
How Many Jedi?
In a recent interview, Headland explained that her show follows the classic Star Wars formula. A group of characters fighting against one big “bad” organization. Whereas the original trilogy had the Rebels fighting the Evil Galactic Empire. This time around, the emerging Sith Lords will be fighting the Jedi Order.
“What makes this show different and interesting is it’s from the perspective of the bad guys or the villains of Star Wars,” Headland said. “These are people who are using the Force in their own way, dipping into the darker sides of the Force, and are doing it without being sanctioned by the larger institution which in this case is the Jedi.
“I think Star Wars is always about some version of the underdog versus the institution, and I just thought it was very interesting to do a show about the bad guys,” she added. “It’s almost flipped. We have more Jedi than you’ve seen in any of the Star Wars content, but at the same time, I think you see more morally ambiguous characters.” as reported by IGN.com.
The Acolyte was announced in May 2020. It will follow a young force user in the High Republic Era. The High Republic Era ends about 100 years before the events of Episode 1, The Phantom Menace. It is an untouched time in Star Wars canon. It will be very interesting to see how Disney will do with all new characters and all new stories.
The Hype Is Real!
Lucasfilm has the opportunity to really make up some ground with the fans on this one. There are many fans that adore The High Republic Era. It would be very disappointing if they were to mess this series up. Hopes are very high for The Acolyte! It will be very interesting to see the differences in this era of Jedi and Sith compared to the prequel era Jedi and Sith. This series has the potential to be very fresh and exciting! Let us hope Dieny can do this one right!
