Anakin Skywalker Vs. Obi-wan Kenobi

Star Wars: Top Five Lightsaber Duels in the Franchise

Star Wars is a franchise that has so many iconic battles. The galaxy far far away is known for its weapons, mainly the Lightsaber. The battles between the Sith and the Jedi are legendary tales of good and evil. As they constantly fight for control of the Galaxy their blades will always clash. From an all-out brawl on Mandalore to an emotional fight between best friends over the lava rivers of Mustafar. Hollywood News Daily is here with our top five Lightsaber duels!

5. Sidious Vs. Maul & Savage

Coming in at number five, we have Darth Sidious Vs. Maul and Savage Opress. Taking place in the animated show Star Wars: The Clone Wars, this duel is one of the only times we get to see Palpatine really go all out. The Rule Of Two must be played out according to Gamerant.com.

The music is fantastic for this fight. Follow that up with the fluent motion of three dark side users fighting for their lives and you have an instant classic.  It is a relatively short fight, but that is to be expected when you see one of the strongest force users in the Galaxy fight. The fight ends with Maul begging for mercy as Sidious replies “There is no mercy”.

4. Ahsoka Tano Vs. Darth Vader

Following up at number 4, we have Ahsoka Tano Vs. Darth Vader. The Dark Lord of the Sith himself. In an ancient Sith temple on Malachor, the student challenges the master. Ahsoka Tano rushes to save the young Jedi Ezra Bridger which in turn draws her into a duel with Vader. After watching The Clone Wars this battle hits fans very hard.

This gut punch of a fight sees Ashoka share a very special moment with her former master after she is able to cut half of Vader’s helmet off. Tano states that she will not leave Anakin again, and in return, Vader replies with “Then you will die” as he ignites his Lightsaber. Vader does come out of this fight victorious and heavily damaged, but that is not where Tano’s story ends.

3. Obi-Wan Vs. Darth Vader

Number three perfectly plays off of number 4. Obi-Wan Vs. Darth Vader from the Kenobi series. Almost 10 years after Obi-Wan leaves Anakin on the lava shores of Mustafar the two meet again. Another case of Master Vs. apprentice Obi-Wan will “do what he must” to defeat his former student once again. It plays off of the Ahsoka fight as Kenobi is able to cut off the opposite side of Vader’s helmet.

The two share a moment of calmness between saber clashes as Vader tells his old master that he is not his failure. He also says that Kenobi did not kill Anakin Skywalker. As Vader’s deep voice creeps back in and a look of pure evil enters Skywalker’s eyes he mutters the words “I did”.  Kenobi walked away from this fight with the win, but in a moment of weakness, he was unable to finish off his best friend.

2. Luke Skywalker Vs. Darth Vader

Number two is one of the most impactful fights for the Star Wars Galaxy. Luke Skywalker Vs. Darth Vader on the second Death Star. As a father fights his son the fate of the entire Galaxy is in the air. The Rebellion has launched a desperate final battle against the Galactic Empire as the young Jedi Luke Skywalker takes on Vader and Sidious.

Star Wars is poetry, everything rhymes. After Vader saves his son from Darth Sidious Luke does what Obi-Wan and Ahsoka couldn’t, he removes all of Vader’s helmet. Not with a swing from his sword, but with the loving hand of a son who loves his father. Vader pays the ultimate price for his deeds as he dies, but he saves the life of his son.

1. Anakin Skywalker Vs. Obi-Wan Kenobi

Number one is arguably the most iconic dule in all of the Star Wars franchise. Of Course, we are talking about Anakin Skywalker Vs. Obi-Wan Kenobi. After Skywalker’s fall to the dark side, Grandmaster Yoda sends Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi to deal with the newly appointed Sith Lord, Darth Vader.

After a fast-paced battle takes place over the lava rivers of Mustafar, Obi-Wan is able to get the high ground on his former padawan. He urges Anakin not to try it, but Anakin is drunk off his newfound power.

Kenobi is able to cut off three of Skywalker’s limbs as he falls onto the bank of the lava river. As Anakin screams that he hates Obi-Wan, Kenobi does not have the heart to finish his friend off. Anakin catches fire and suffers severe burns, but he survives. These are just a few of the greatest battles in Star Wars, there are so many to choose from. This franchise knows how to do a fight scene, that’s for sure.
