Star Wars’ Lando Calrissian show starring Donald Glover will not be happening anytime soon it seems. Even the writers are saying that they have “no clue” what is going on. The last update that writer Justin Simien got about the show was in the year 2020. Since then it has been radio silence from Disney and Lucasfilm.

What Happened To Lando?

“I certainly poured my heart and spent a lot of time working with them to put together a really great show,” Simien said. “It feels like everybody loves it, and, I was told we had to put a pause on it because of scheduling, and the next update I got [was in 2020], some years ago. So I don’t know, I have no idea what’s going on with it.” as reported by IGN.com

Lando was announced in 2020, but right after Disney started to focus on other shows such as The Mandalorian, Kenobi, and The Book Of Boba Fett. This may have been the scheduling issue that Simien was talking about. With the very limited information we have about that show, it is all but confirmed that Donald Glover was returning to play Lando Calrissian. Glover played the character in the Han Solo movie, and the fans loved him as Lando.

President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy later told IGN that Glover was “very excited” about returning to Star Wars. She did not share any other information on the show afterward. Although Disney still has plenty of other shows on the way this is not a good look for Kennedy and the rest of Lucasfilm. The fans still are not over the messy sequel trilogy and instead of bringing the fans back together, Disney continues to divide them.

The Future Of Star Wars

Looking to the future, the next big series will be the Ahsoka Show. Set to release in August, Ahsoka will follow characters from Star Wars Rebels as well as Ahsoka Tano. Following that, we have Andor Season 2, Skeleton Crew, The Acolyte, and another season of The Mandalorian. We will most likely have fewer shows going forward as Disney CEO, Bob Iger prefers quality over quantity.

Disney will also be moving back into the movie direction with three new Star Wars movies being announced. One about the first Jedi, one unknown title that will be directed by Dave Filoni, and one that will star Rey from the sequel trilogy. This is all barring any setbacks or canalizations. Who knows what will really happen with Kennedy and Lucasfilm being the mess they are. It will be interesting to see what goes down in the Star Wars franchise.
