“Supernatural” fans are confused this week after news of a prequel series titled “The Winchesters” was announced. The show will focus on Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam’s (Jared Padalecki) parents, Mary and John in the early days of their relationship (via E! Online).

Jensen and his wife, “One Tree Hill” alum Daneel Ackles, will produce the series with “Supernatural” producer Robbie Thompson. Jensen will also reportedly reprise his role as Dean in order to narrate the series. However, Padalecki wasn’t asked to participate in the project (I mean, what is Dean without Sam?) and he had a few thoughts about the situation, which he aired on Twitter.

‘Supernatural’ prequel causes drama among Padalecki and Ackles

“Dude. Happy for you. Wish I heard about this some way other than Twitter. I’m excited to watch, but bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever,” Padalecki tweeted on Thursday. Later, when a fan thought his tweet was a joke, Padalecki replied, “No. It’s not. This is the first I’ve heard about it. I’m gutted.”

Fans immediately began to share their disapproval over Ackles leaving Padalecki out of the project, as the two made “Supernatural” the hit series that it blossomed into over its 15 seasons on air. However, Padalecki asked fans to be civil when speaking their mind about the situation. “Hey world. Thank you for the love. Please PLEASE don’t send any hate or threats. I care deeply about everybody involved and would be in true misery if any of them were harmed or threatened,” he stated.

On Friday, Padalecki put “Supernatural” fans minds at ease when he revealed that he and Ackles worked things out. “@JensenAckles and I had a great talk, as we do often, and things are good. The show is early in the process with miles to go. We’ve travelled [sic] a lot of roads together, and sometimes those damn roads have bumps. Bumps don’t stop us. Once brothers, always brothers. #spnfamily,” he announced via social media.

Whether or not Padalecki joins Ackles for the “Supernatural” prequel series, fans will likely be tuning in to see the origins of the beloved Winchester brothers, They’ll also love seeing Dean (and hopefully Sam) back on their television screens.
