Is a “Supernatural” revival in the works? Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are teasing new projects, and fans think it could be Season 16 of the beloved TV show. The series is still very popular among fans, who have loved it since the early 2000s. However, after 15 seasons on air, the show ended with Season 15 in 2020. The series finale was polarizing, with some fans love it and others disappointed in the ending.
Supernatural revival teased by Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki
The rumblings of a “Supernatural” revival began when actors Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki attended the 2023 Creation honolulu convention in November. The duo, who starred as lead characters Sam and Dean Winchester on the series dropped a huge bombshell for fans. When one fan asked the cast what they thought happened after the events of the series finale.
“I have some ideas, and I hope that now that the writers are back, and the actors are back, that we all get together, Padalecki said. “Stay tuned on that,” Ackles added. “There are some conversations regarding that conversation that are being had.”
As fans may already know, Ackles previously created a “Supernatural” prequel titled “The Winchesters” about Sam and Dean’s parents, Mary and John Winchester in their early days. However, the show only ran for one season.
Will there be a Supernatural Season 16?
As for what the future holds for the franchise, many are hoping for “Supernatural” Season 16. Another season would certainly be a huge interest to viewers. However, undoing the events of the series finale could prove to be challenging. Meanwhile, other ideas like a miniseries have also been tossed out by excited fans.
According to Collider, a return to “Supernatural” could mean that the show will go back to its roots. At the beginning of the series, it was focused on horror-style storylines. Bringing back those edgy plots may be what fans would love to see.
“I have this lofty dream of when, after things have settled, we’ll tackle one more case as Sam and Dean,” Jensen Ackles told Syfy in 2022. “[Maybe] a nice 10-episode short-order for HBO Max – I’m just saying. Like a whole ‘True Detective’ meets ‘Supernatural.’ It’s right there.”
Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have kept busy since leaving Sam and Dean behind
After “Supernatural” ended in 2020, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki moved on in their careers. Ackles went on to land roles on “Big Sky” and “The Boys.” Meanwhile, Padalecki heads the CW series “Walker.”
Despite their other roles, Ackles and Padalecki will always be linked to Sam and Dean Winchester. Of course, fans want to see a “Supernatural” revival. Any chance to see the brothers back together fighting evil will be something that diehard viewers will tune in for.
