Supernatural star Jensen Ackles desperately wanted to play Joel in The Last Of Us. Being based on 2013’s game of the year award winner by the same name.
The Last Of Us is a post-apocalyptic world where ravenous infected try to spread their “zombie” virus as the world has collapsed. Although the world is gone small quarantine zones were set up where humanity tries to survive with the help of the military. You play as Joel Miller, a smuggler tasked to bring a young girl to a group of insurgents due to her being immune to the virus that killed the world.
Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles Wanted The Part of Joel on The Last Of Us
At a recent Supernatural convention, Jensen stated that he pushed very hard for the part of Joel. Akles stated it was something that he really wanted to do. However, Jensen admitted that he was never a serious candidate for the part. “I was really kind of pushing hard, but I don’t think I was really in the mix or really had a shot at it, but– for Pedro Pascal’s role in The Last of Us. I really, I was like– that was high up on my radar. That being said, I am about to head up to LA to shoot a whole day for a new game that’s coming out as a character… I can’t say what it is just yet, but you’ll find out soon enough.” according to Screen Rant.
Between Jensen’s role as Dean Winchester in Supernatural and Soldier Boy in The Boys. Ackles has made a great name for himself. However many fans via Twitter stated that they do not think Ackles would have been a good pick to play Joel as he seems to lack one major quality in all his characters. Joel’s relationship with Ellie turns into one of a father and daughter and while Ackles would have gotten Joel’s attitude and action scenes down he may not have gotten his fatherly instincts down.
Pedro Pascal ended up with the coveted role in The Last Of Us
First of all Joel and Ellies’ relationship is arguably the most important plot line in the first game. Second of all, fans also stated that Jensen Ackles is just too young looking to play Joel Miller. There are so many factors that play into the casting of a character.
Pedro Pascal has proven himself to be good at the father figure role. As well as being the talk of Hollywood after The Mandalorian seasons one and two. Pedro is just the better casting decision and fans are happy with him leading the way as Joel Miller.
