Taylor Swift has built her career on writing songs about her personal life. Many of those songs reference her relationships with her very famous exes, such as John Mayer, Taylor Lautner, Calvin Harris, Joe Jonas, Jake Gyllenhaal, Tom Hiddleston, and many others. In her most recent album, The Tortured Poets Department, she sings about her fling with Matty Healy as well as her long-term relationship with Joe Alwyn. However, none of her ex-boyfriends have publicly spoken out about her songs. Now, fans are finding out why they’ve stayed quiet over the years. According to legal expert Emma Gill, it seems very likely that Swift has asked her romantic partners to sign non-disclosure agreements throughout the years. By signing an NDA, her exes wouldn’t be able to speak out about personal and private details of their time together, per Geo.

“Taylor Swift has settled a number of scores in song, yet cleverly ensured her ex-lovers rarely become liabilities,” Gill stated, citing an NDA as the likely reason. “The law is there to protect your reputation and prevent confidential information about you being used for someone else’s personal gain. These days, when so much is shared in public, shrewd millennials are also keen to set boundaries and expectations for social media, not to mention more intimate material, and a prenup will now often specify how photos or videos have to be deleted or returned along with the keys to the house or car.”In the past, Swift has admitted that she writes about her personal life, including her relationships. It’s not uncommon for an artist to write about their own lives. However, she’s really made an art of it.
“I don’t talk about my personal life in great detail. I write about it in my songs, and I feel like you can share enough about your life in your music to let people know what you’re going through,” she said.
It seems likely that Swift has a legal gag order on her exes, and for good reason. Meanwhile, fans always seem to figure out the clues in her songs. Rumors has it that Taylor Swift has already had her current boyfriend Travis Kelce sign an NDA. With her level of fame, it’s understandable that she would want to protect herself.
