Teen Mom” star Amber Portwood is devastated this week as her father, Shawn Portwood Sr. had died.  Shawn died while recovering from a surgery on Dec. 16, Daily Mail reports.

‘Teen Mom’: Amber Portwood’s Father Dies

Amber Portwood’s father was a recovering alcoholic who found out he had a liver disease 11 years ago, and since then had stopped drinking and become very close with his children.

Amber had spoken out about her father’s health issues on “Teen Mom” in the past, and announced via Twitter earlier this week that her father was in the hospital and needed prayers.

Amber Portwood’s brother, Shawn Portwood Jr. revealed to Radar Online that his father’s liver wasn’t working correctly, and that he needed a transplant. Shawn Sr. was then put into a medically induced coma, which he sadly never came out if.

Shawn Jr. also revealed that Amber’s boyfriend, Matthew Baier, drove the “Teen Mom” star from Indiana to Florida to be with her father, and even watched the children in the family in the hospital’s waiting room so that the adults could be at Shawn Sr.’s hospital bedside.

Our thoughts are definitely with the Portwood family during this difficult time in their lives. However, Amber can have some peace knowing that her father got to see her clean up her life after being released from prison.

It seems that the tragic passing of Amber Portwood’s father could be a big part of the new season of “Teen Mom” when it returns to MTV early next year.
