Teen Mom OG star Maci Bookout McKinney is going through a tough time as a parent. The reality star broke down in tears after learning what happened during her son, Bentley’s therapy session according to MTV.
Maci, husband Taylor, and Bentley sat down for a family talk to discuss Bentley’s attending therapy. Maci sought advice from a therapist on ways to help Bentley cope with his relationship with his father Ryan Edwards.
The therapist advised Maci that Bentley should attend first without Ryan to become comfortable in the new environment.
Maci Bookout willing to anything to help Bentley’s relationship with Ryan Edwards
During a family discussion, Bentley revealed to Maci and stepfather Taylor that he did not want to see Ryan anymore unless they attended therapy sessions together.
Before Bentley’s first appointment, Maci talked with her son telling him how much she loved him, and how proud he makes her. She also talked with Bentley about being comfortable and talking honestly with the therapist.
Bentley’s first therapy visit was unfilmed. Maci spoke with the therapist on the phone. The DR revealed to Bookout that Bentley was not quite ready to have Ryan Edwards at these sessions just yet, and advised more individual sessions would be in Bentley’s best interest at this time.
Bentley feels neglected by Ryan
“My main concern is that he seems to feel neglected by his father; he has a hard time knowing what to do about it,” Maci was told. “It’s a difficult thing for a kid to feel that they have to teach their dad how to be a dad because that’s not their job.”
Bookout completely agreed with the therapist’s assessment, scheduling more private sessions for Bentley. However, the mother of three completely lost her composure following the call.
“I’m angry,” Maci confessed. “I just never wanted to put ‘neglect’ and ‘Bentley’ in the same sentence.”
Taylor stood by his wife’s side telling her that she is a “great mother” and that she has done everything she can for her son.
“And so have you,” Maci offered. “But there’s a hole that only one person can fill. There’s pain that I can never fix for [Bentley]. I just wish I could carry it instead.” It is hard for a mother to see their child struggle and hurt. Especially when that pain is brought on by their father.
Needless to say, Ryan Edwards has his own opinions about Bentley’s therapy needs and made them quite clear in the Season 9 trailer. Edwards is seen lounging on the sofa blasting his ex-Maci about his sons request for counseling.
Ryan Edwards points the blame at Maci
“Bentley wanted us to do counseling – is it all your mom’s bulls***?” Ryan can be heard wife Mackenzie Edwards.
Edwards’ comments in the trailer did not sit well with the majority of Teen Mom OG fans who began commenting on Bookout’s Instagram. Ryan Edwards and Maci Bookout’s relationship especially where it comes to Bentley has always been strained, sadly it doesn’t seem as if it will get any easier anytime soon. Will Ryan Edwards ever step up to be the kind of father Bentley really needs?
