John Boyega

The Actor Behind Finn In The Star Wars Sequels Said A Director Forced His Storyline To Change Completely

John Boyega, who was the actor behind the ex-Stormtrooper turned Resistance fighter Finn, has made it known to everyone that his time making the Star Wars sequels was not a good one. Even though Boyega had such a negative experience he is still a big Star Wars fan and keeps up with all the latest projects, most recently talking about the Obi-Wan Kenobi show that streamed on Disney Plus.

One of the biggest problems John Boyega had was the lack of meaningful representation throughout the trilogy. As things really got out of hand in the last two movies Boyega even has issues with 2015’s The Force Awakens which is widely seen as the best movie in the Disney trilogy.

Fans remember that at the end of that movie Finn is teased to possibly be force sensitive as he picks up Anakin Skywalkers’ lightsaber and has a short duel with Adam Drivers’ Kylo Ren.

John had no clue where his character was going

When asked about the Force-sensitive stuff John Boyega was not sure in what direction it would lead before everything changed in the last two movies. According to Boyega, Director, JJ Abrams wanted Finn to be force-sensitive even if he had to cram it into the story.

Horowitz: “This is my last thing because we haven’t spoken since Star Wars, how was the Force-sensitive stuff explained to you? Like was that only brought up when Episode XI came around, or like was it ever discussed in the previous films that Finn would be Force-sensitive?

Boyega: “It was a discussion from VII that was kind of brewing because you didn’t know which way it was gonna go, right? And then VIII went in another direction. So I think with VIII going in another direction when you’re bringing someone to the third, they have to kind of like appreciate what’s happened in VIII and then still try and make a narrative of it. And JJ [Abrams], I mean JJ really wanted– Force Awakens is the movie that JJ directed, he was kind of pinpoint plotting a trajectory. But obviously, with the different creative differences in the middle and then getting to the third, it’s kind of like he still wanted to you know just force it in there, just squeeze it in there.” as reported by The Direct.com.

Boyega is still disappointed with the trilogy

Since the trilogy ended John Boyega has repeatedly stated how disappointed he was and still is with how his character turned out. Boyega felt like he was left out and stuck in the background while other characters got all the spotlight. The Jedi rout will probably be a sore spot for a while for John as we will never get to see what could have been.
