Donovan Mitchell and his Cleveland Cavaliers are having a legendary season so far. Granted that it has only been the regular season, this is still extremely impressive. Starting off the NBA season 15-0 just to continue to go on massive double-digit win streaks. The Cavs team has no quit. However, they are still untrusted. The playoffs are where legends are born and dynasties reign. Are these boys out of North Eastern Ohio ready for what truly lies ahead?
The NY Times reports that the Cleveland Cavaliers are struggling. After dropping their last two games the team looks slightly off. However, it does not seem to be one huge issue. More like a bunch of very small but very annoying issues. For example, despite the Cavaliers having a hard time staying at full strength lately, their defensive effort has dropped dramatically. Defense is what has fueled this team all season. Their number-one-rated offense stems from their defensive intensity. Dropping back-to-back games to the Orlando Magic and then the Los Angeles Clippers, is not a good look. However, Donovan Mitchell is staying calm. “We are contenders, and we want to be the best,” says Donovan. However, if that is the case, something needs to change right now.
Donovan Mitchell and his Cleveland Cavaliers Want That NBA Championship
Despite dropping two very winnable games, the Cavaliers are still in a fantastic spot as the regular season continues to truck on. Playoffs are approaching quickly, and this Cavs team has a lot to prove. Cleveland currently sits at the top of the NBA’s Eastern Conference with a record of 56-12. Losing two games in a row was rough. However, they still have a great lead for the one seed.
While retaining the one seed is not the most important thing, it can really help a team make a deep playoff run. While Boston and Cleveland are considered the only two contending teams in the East, the Cavaliers probably want to keep their distance from the Celtics as long as possible.
Donovan Mitchell has stated many times over that the goal is to win it all. Cleveland has not been to the NBA Finals since LeBron James’ last stint with the team in 2018. However, this may be the best non-LeBron James lead Cavaliers team of all time. Do not let social media get it twisted, this Cleveland team is a contender and they are scary. However, so are the Boston Celtics. Will these two powerhouses meet in the Eastern Conference Finals? Or could an upset take one of them out of the race? Only time will tell for now.
