The Cleveland Cavaliers Have “Touched Base” With The Jazz About Donovan Mitchell Trade

Donovan Mitchell

The Cleveland Cavaliers were one of the most shocking teams in the NBA last season as they had their first winning season without LeBron since he was drafted by the Cavs in 2003. The Cavaliers led by all-star point guard Darius Garland battled through many injuries and tough games to be the number two seed in the Eastern Conference at one point. Unfortunately, a lack of experience saw them miss the playoffs as they were knocked out of the play-in tournament by the Atlanta Hawks.

The Cavaliers have a great young team with Garland, Mobley, and Allen but they are missing one key thing and that thing is a star player with playoff experience and the kill to elevate this team to the next level.

That player could just be Donovan Mitchell from the Utah Jazz. According to NBA insider Ian Begley, the Cavaliers have actually “touched base” with the Utah Jazz’s front office about what it would take to get Mitchell to Cleveland.

Who is in the running for Mitchell?

The Cavaliers are not the only team trying to trade for Donovan Mitchell though, as the Miami Heat and the New York Knicks have also both called the Utah Jazz about the three-time all-star. It is unknown at the time how interested the Cavaliers are in Mitchell but they have the young players and the draft picks to put together a pretty competitive deal.

Many believe that a Cavs-Jazz deal would be centered around Cleveland’s young guard Collin Sexton with a sign and trade. The Cavaliers and the Jazz have already had deductions about a Collin Sexton deal but they have seemed to die down as of right now.

Donovan Mitchell could be the missing piece for this Cavaliers team but the Cavs will not give up any of their core players such as Garland, Mobley, and Allen and without sending one of them Utah’s way it seems very unlike the Jazz will be sending Donovan Mitchell to Cleveland.

Championship Contenders?

The Idea of having Mitchell and Garland in the backcourt and rim protectors like Even Mobley and Jarrett Allen in the front court does sound too good to be true for the Cavaliers but it is Definity worth a phone call to see if a deal would be possible.

If the Cavaliers could make something work without having to give up any of their core Mitchell could help the Cavaliers find their way back to the NBA Finals a lot faster but for now, we will just have to wait and see how the market plays out and if the Cavaliers can get something done.
