The Cleveland Cavaliers: How Could Danny Green Help The Cavs

Danny Green talks about being back on the court after his injury

With the Cleveland Cavaliers making a splash in the buyout market, how could Danny Green help the Cavs? Danny Green has become a very different player since his first stay with the wine and gold in 2010. Although the 35-year-old is coming back from a torn ACL Green can still be exactly what the Cleveland Cavaliers need.

Danny Green has made a solid career for himself as being a three-and-D kind of player. The 3x NBA Champion has been a significant role player on many contending teams. The Cleveland Cavaliers desperately need an excellent spot-up shooter, and that is exactly what Danny Green is.

Green’s Previous Season

Green hit 41.4% of his 3.7 catch-and-shoot threes last season for the 76ers. According to FearTheSword.com, 84.5% of Green’s shots were threes. Out of those, 45.3% were corner threes. That is the highest percentage for any wing player last season.

Another thing to look at is Green’s off-ball movement. The sharpshooter does not sit in one spot and wait for the ball. Green does an excellent job getting himself open for easy and smart shots. Being able to hit threes while moving off-ball is something the Cavaliers need desperately. Even with Isaac Okoro’s improvement the Cleveland Cavaliers are still 17th in corner three percentage.

Danny Green is the kind of player that a coach can lean on during a playoff series. On defense, he is used similarly to Caris LeVert and Issac Okoro. Green is capable of guarding most guards in the league. The big question is, will Danny Green be the same player he was pre-injury?

How Will Bickerstaff Use Green?

The Cavs will most likely bring him on slowly like Ricky Rubio so as to not rush anything. Most importantly the Cavaliers want everyone healthy come playoff time. Head coach J.B. Bickerstaff will have to find the best way to get the most out of Danny Green. The Cleveland Cavaliers are seemingly getting ready to buckle down and make a big playoff push after the All-Star Break. Danny Green is a player that can help them make that big push.

This was a great pickup by the Cleveland Cavaliers. It was cheap and it is a very low-risk, high-reward situation for both parties. How will Danny Green fit in with the rest of the Cavaliers? Will His championship experience help this very young team? Only time will tell as we all await his first game back as a Cavalier.
