The Cleveland Cavaliers’ struggles continue as the All-Star break and trade deadline approaches. January has been a very rough month for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The young team went 8-8 in the month and dropped some very ugly losses to lesser teams. The 82-game marathon season is now coming to a full sprint to the postseason. The Cleveland Cavaliers are still trying to fix the inconsistencies that threaten their playoff plans.
“We are kind of inconsistent,” All-Star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell admitted following Tuesday’s 100-97 loss to the Miami Heat. “I don’t want that to be the headline. I want it to be known that the sky is not falling. We are in good shape. But we have to find that level of consistency to be a great team.” as reported by Cleveland.com.
What Is The Cavs’ Main Issue?
These are almost the same words Cavaliers’ head coach J.B. Bickerstaff said before the game.
“The hunt for consistency,” Bickerstaff said when asked about priorities over the next few weeks. “We have seen flashes of how good we can be. We’ve seen flashes of how we can control moments and now it’s just a matter of how long you can sustain it. Nobody plays a perfect game. Never seen a team play a perfect 48. But can you get to 40 minutes where you play at your best? And then you work yourself up. Playoff basketball comes down to every single possession. Every possession matters. Have to prepare yourself for that. That’s where our aim is and that’s what we are working toward.” J.B. went on to talk about how it all comes down to playing a full basketball game.
The Cleveland Cavaliers came out of the gates firing. The Cavs played some of the best defense we have seen all season and the offense was rolling because of it. Unfortunately, that would end after the first quarter as the Cleveland Cavaliers would completely implode as we have seen them do a lot this season. They started playing sloppy and unorganized basketball and that is just unacceptable.
Can The Cavs Find Their Consistency?
Their sloppiness led to bad turnovers that cost them a lot of points. There is just no excuse for that kind of play. The Cleveland Cavaliers are lucky to still be in 5th place with who they have been playing lately. If Something does not change fast the Cavaliers could be in some real trouble! A trade needs to be made for a three-point shooter or the Cavs may not make it far in the playoffs if they make them at all.
