The Cleveland Cavaliers are in the middle of a pretty solid season for the young team, but what is next for them? Cleveland currently sits in the 5th seed of the Eastern Conference. Although that is not a bad spot to be in, it is slightly lower than the Cavaliers would like to be. They were for a long time the 3rd seed in the east. Other than the obvious way of winning games, how can the Cleveland Cavaliers get back to their old spot or higher?
Starting on Tuesday the Cavaliers go on a three-game road trip. Their opponents will be the New York Knicks, the Houston Rockets, and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Then the Cleveland Cavaliers will return home to play the Los Angeles Clippers. On Paper this should be a fairly easy road trip for the Cavs.
The Cleveland Cavaliers Little Road Trip
Having Houston on the tail end of a back-to-back is about as good as it can get matchup-wise. According to Fear The Sword, we did learn from the Golden State game that what team you’re playing and who is playing for that team doesn’t mean anything if you don’t show up to play ball.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are still a very young team. They are still trying to figure out who they are and what their role in the league is going to be. This team has the talent to be a contender. It comes down to playing smart basketball and having the experience that helps you finish out games.
One thing that hurts the Cavaliers badly is their first-half play. It has become a common theme for the Cavaliers to let themselves get down big in the first half. Then they scrape their way back in the third quarter. This leaves the fourth quarter to decide a winner and the Cavaliers just don’t have enough experience in close games to win the majority of those fourth quarters.
The Cavs Need All Of These Wins
The Cleveland Cavaliers could put on a nice little win streak in these next few games. This could help propel them back up the standings and back to the task of chipping away at the Boston Celtics.
The Cavs need to take it one game at a time and focus on getting back to their roots of great defense and explosive offense. Donovan Mitchell is again going to his home state to play in The Garden. Will Mitchell have a big game against the Knicks? Only time will tell.
