On Wednesday, June 14th critically acclaimed and former Game Of The Year Award winner The Last Of Us celebrated its 10-year anniversary. As well as being a hit game, The Last Of Us is also an ongoing TV series thanks to HBO Max. With the celebration, many fans were hoping there would also be some kind of announcement. If you were one of those fans you were sure to be disappointed.
What Is Going On At Naughty Dog?
In an announcement by Naughty Dog via Twitter, they revealed that they are in fact celebrating but there will be no news on game development. TLOU has a huge fanbase. After the release of The Last Of Us Part 2 many fans wondered why there was not a multiplayer mode like in the first game. Naughty Dog then answered that question by saying they are making a separate game for the multiplayer mode.
Since then, it has been all but radio silence about that stand-alone multiplayer game. According to IGN.com, this is all coming just a few weeks after we finally got some kind of news about the game. A tweet from Naughty apologizing for not being ready to show off their untitled multiplayer game. They also mentioned a new single-player experience they are working on. It is unclear if this is for an already established franchise or a new IP.
There has not been a lot of TLOU news this year. Other than HBO’s The Last Of Us coming out in January. The series has been renewed for a second season. Showrunner Craig Mazin has also said that the second game will cover more than one season of TV. This has led fans to believe they may split the second game into two or more seasons.
Give The Fans More TLOU!
It is no secret that fans want more of The Last Of Us franchise. One of the best games to ever do it in the zombie genre with two hugely popular games. So popular that it was turned into a TV show that set the bar for video game adaptations from now on. With such a huge following, Naughty Dog has to realize that they have to give the fans what they want. What the fans want is more TLOU content.
It will be very interesting to see when we will finally get to know more about this multiplayer game set in The Last Of Us universe. Will it just be a shooter? Will it have some kind of story? Only time will tell as we all look forward to hearing more about this upcoming project.
